"Find out who you are and do it on purpose."
As a senior at the University of Rhode Island, the reality of adulthood becomes more and more prevalent. With the excellent teachings in classes from URI, I have become the marketable person I am today. Pursuing a double major in Communication Studies and Public Relation Studies, the sky is the limit.

Humble BeginningsI was raised in Clark, NJ. Attending the town's schooling system for elementary and middle school, it was a huge jump when I decided to go to the Vocational Technical Schools a few towns over. I applied, tested, auditioned, and got into the Union County Academy for the Performing Arts. At UCAPA, I had the opportunity to go to Kean University full-time for my senior year of high school, accumulating 31 credits in the process. When I graduated from high school, I was the Vice-President of National Honor Society and Top 8 in my class. When I came to URI the Fall of 2014, I started as a Forensic Chemistry major. It was not before long that I realized this was not the career path for me. I went undeclared Spring 2015 and declared Communication Studies by the end of the semester. By the following Spring, I applied and got accepted into the Public Relations program and officially declared my double major in Communication Studies and Public Relation Studies in the Harrington School for Communication and Media.
Making it CountAfter I graduate, I hope to achieve great things. Greatness is not defined by the money made, or the importance of the job, but more so the people helped and the differences made. December 2017, I applied to become a National Leadership Consultant for Chi Omega Nationals. Each year, a couple hundred women apply and about 7 to 14 women are chosen. This position comes with a lot of responsibility. An NLC is the chapter's direct connection with the top people at National Headquarters. NLC's are also responsible for helping maintain positive relations within a chapter and the branding for the campus. Skills accumulated from PR and Comm will come in handy with this position.
After, I would love to work for a non-profit in a corporate setting. Whatever I do, I want to be able to invest my whole self into it and it would be so much better if I could help others in the process. Ideally, I would love to have a job with significance to my life and to others' lives. I plan on making a difference for those who it truly matters and I think I can best do this with a non-profit corporation. |
Endless PossibilitiesComing to URI, I knew I wanted to be involved, it was just about figuring out what the best possible option was for me to do that. I decided to go through recruitment Fall 2014. I joined Chi Omega and became a heavily involved new member. This involvement and passion that I displayed lead me to being chosen as model initiate for the Fall 2014 new member class because I displayed what it means to be a Chi Omega by living the six purposes everyday: Friendship, Personal Integrity, Service to Others, Academic Excellence and Intellectual Pursuits, Community and Campus Involvement, and Personal and Career Development. The following Fall, I was slated in as the New Member Educator. This Fall, I have been slated into the Director of Programming, a new executive position that oversees all of the programming done within the sorority. I plan on using the skills I have acquired through my public relations classes and applying them to this position come 2017. Over the summer of 2017, I stepped into the role of chapter President for the Fall 2017 semester.

"Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence."
Since I was nine years old, I have been riding horses. It was only natural that I would also join the Equestrian Team when I came to URI in Fall 2014. I have been riding with the team ever since.
The URI Equestrian Team is a group of riders that lessons at Hunter Ridge in Ashaway, RI. Wendy Brayman coaches with the assistance of Samantha Craig. The Equestrian Team has won Regionals the past two years I have been apart of the team. |
